BIOGRAPHY

Luis Alacan is a Miami-based composer, orchestrator, violinist, pianist, and music educator specializing in film, animation, and promos. Recent credits include the Italian horror feature Art of Diversion (2023), After Mountains (2024), Neenu: Shared Paths (2024), and A Birthday to Remember (2024), which earned him Best Original Score at the University of Miami's Canes Film Festival.Luis’s professional journey began with The Soul of Our Culture (2021), a promotional video for FIU’s CasaCuba initiative narrated by actor Andy Garcia, which received the CASE Silver Award for Short Video Fundraising and Stewardship. This experience set the stage for his continued success in creating music that resonates deeply with diverse audiences.Luis has scored numerous projects for emerging filmmakers and animators outside of Miami, including the CalArts animated short I Don’t Know (我不知道) (2024), and a promotional video for children's book author Yangsook Choi's My First Kimchi Workshop, commissioned by the Korean Cultural Center in New York.Luis has trained internationally, enrolling in the prestigious Film Scoring Intensive Program at the Fondazione Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy, where his work was performed by members of Orchestra della Toscana at Teatro Verdi in Florence. This program, led by USC Screen Scoring faculty, has been associated with celebrated composers such as Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, and Nicola Piovani. During his time in Italy, he composed original music for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ InsiemepergliSDG video, promoting sustainability initiatives worldwide.Luis holds a master’s degree from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, where he studied under Grammy and Emmy Award-winning composer Carlos Rafael Rivera in the Media Scoring and Production (MSP) program. While there, he contributed as a graduate teaching assistant and lab supervisor, and supported the Creative American Music Minor Program led by Reynaldo Sanchez. After graduation, he participated as an auditor for the Joy Music House New York Workshop.Luis’s approach to composition centers on storytelling and collaboration. He builds strong, personable relationships with his clients to ensure that his music is not just a backdrop but an integral part of their vision. His goal is to bring each project to life by crafting music that is unique, memorable, and deeply connected to the story it tells.
