BIO
Luis Alacan is a Miami-based film composer, orchestrator, and arranger. He composed for the feature-length Italian horror film “Art of Diversion” (2023). Other works include his award-winning score for “A Birthday to Remember” (2024), “After Mountains” (2024), Neenu: SHARED PATHS (2024), and “CasaCuba - The Soul of Our Culture” (2021), among others.He received his Bachelor of Music at Florida International University (FIU) where he took courses on electronic music and contemporary composition with Dr. Jacob Sudol and Dr. Orlando Jacinto Garcia respectively. He wrote music for FIU’s CasaCuba promotional video, narrated by actor and alumni Andy Garcia, which has earned the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Silver Award in the Short Video Fundraising and Stewardship category.In 2022, Luis was accepted into the Film Scoring Intensive Program at the prestigious Fondazione Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy. Notable instructors of this program include Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov, and Nicola Piovani. He had his music performed by the musicians of Orchestra della Toscana at Teatro Verdi in Florence, Italy. During his program, he composed original music for the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale “InsiemepergliSDG” promotional video, bringing awareness to economic, social, and environmental sustainability.He has earned his master’s degree in the Media Scoring and Production (MSP) program at the University of Miami led by Grammy and Emmy award-winning composer Carlos Rafael Rivera. There he worked as lab supervisor for the Frost School of Music’s computer lab and teaching assistant for the MSP graduate’s film scoring courses. He has scored for several short films presented at the university’s Canes Film Festival (2023-2024) and other film projects outside of Miami including CalArts student short film "I don't know (我不知道)" (2024).Whether it is Cuban music, Italian music, Chinese music, or simply expressing the emotions of the characters on film, Luis encapsulates the identity and the tone of the story that the director wants to share with its audience. His working relationship with directors and others in the film music industry are at the forefront of his mind. He doesn’t just write music. He writes your music.
